Podias
Biography
Nikos Podias (Thessaloniki, 1974) explores the intangible and material traces and fragments of the past, and their transformation over time. His starting point is often the history of a place, a fairytale, or archetypal and cross-cultural motifs and concepts. His work includes video, drawings and paintings, wall compositions, and site-specific installations. He uses delicate materials and semi-transparent, silk, handmade papers, bearing visible imprints of decay and, indirectly, of human history. His meticulously crafted works suggest a presence and highlight the boundaries between qualities such as matter and the ethereal, fragility and rigidity, the ephemeral and the timeless, the incomplete and the whole, structured and free composition. His technically refined pieces also reflect detail, time, care, sensitivity, and dedication—an almost ritualistic approach to his artistic practice.
