Vassilis Theocharakis was born in Piraeus where he spent his early years. Whilst attending the Athens University Law School, which he graduated in 1957, he studied painting under the guidance of the eminent Greek painter and professor of the Fine Arts’ School, Spyros Papaloukas.

Vassilis Theoharakis first exhibited his work in 1957, at the Moscow International Youth Festival, and at the 5th Pan-Hellenic Painting Exhibition in Zappeion. From then on he has exhibited his work in many group shows in Greece, in various European countries and the U.S.A. He has also mounted several solo exhibitions, most notably at Zygos Gallery, Athens (1963 & 1984), Vorres Museum, Athens (1990), De Chirico Cultural
Centre, Volos (1992), Vellidis Cultural Centre, Thessaloniki (1994), Kreonidis Gallery, Athens (1998), the European Parliament in Strasbourg (1999), the City Hall of Paris (6e arrondissement, 2006), and at the Sismanogleion Megaron in Constantinople (2006).

His works are part of several public and private collections in Greece (National Gallery, Vorres Museum, Pieridis Gallery, Rhodes Gallery, Cyclades Gallery, Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Bank of Greece, Commercial Bank, and Alpha Bank) and abroad. Numerous articles and essays have been published about his work. He was made a Knight of the French Légion d’ Ηonneur, and has been invested with the office of Grand Archivist of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
