Chandris
Biography
Pantelis Chandris (Athens, 1963) first studied graphic arts before continuing with painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts, under the guidance of Dimitris Mytaras and Rena Papaspyrou. He began exhibiting his work in 1987 with his participation in the Young Artists Biennale of the Mediterranean, and since then he has held sixteen solo exhibitions and has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Greece and internationally. Chandris currently serves as Professor and Director of the 10th Painting Studio at the Athens School of Fine Arts. In 1992, he received the First Prize of the Yiannis & Zoe Spyropoulos Foundation, and in 2010 he was awarded the First Prize by AICA Hellas for his exhibition Ens Solum. Primarily working with sculpture, Chandris explores the expression of ideas through a wide range of materials, including natural elements, plaster, paper, paints, metals, and polyester. His compositions are marked by strong contrasts, dreamlike and complex imagery, and a prominent use of symbolism and allegory. His works are held in the collections of the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST), the National Gallery, and the National Glyptotheque, as well as in significant private collections in Greece and abroad.
